A villa by the sea in Zakynthos, the perfect place for a bit of summertime zen. It was idyllic at the end of May, I can only imagine what a spectacular summer location this must be.
So many boxes ticked by La Mer Zakynthos… Modern and luxurious. Purpose built with everything just as it should be. A home away from home. Metres from the sea. Incredible views. Sleepy location. Awesome restaurant moments away. Beautiful pool terrace. Quiet a/c. Good showers. Electric shutters… Where to stop…
For the third year running we booked our villa holiday with Think Villa. They always find somewhere just right – right price, right size and just the right amount of wow too! This year we tried Zakynthos.
La Mer is the front villa of a set of four near identical villas that are two years old. They’re located near Psarou in a quiet bit of the east coast, 25 mins drive away from the airport.
The villa is three bedroom, two king size and one twin. Two rooms are en suite with a third bathroom off the living area. There’s an enormous balcony in front of the two upstairs rooms. Happily there isn’t an inferior bedroom. Plenty of storage too.
The kitchen and lounge are open plan with everything you could need. And the sofas become two single beds. All the shutters are electric and controlled from inside – hallelujah!
We loved how elegantly put together the space was, thoughtful decor and comfortable, practical furnishings.
What really stood out though was the amount of daylight in the villa. Greek villas can be dark but this villa makes the most of views and daylight in nearly every direction. As a result we found ourselves making far more use of the space than we normally do – proper indoors outdoors living.
Outside the living space is wonderful. The pool is beautiful with an infinity edge and a whirlpool corner. It was a little chilly but just in the week we were there it heated up massively. There’s an outdoor shower, a BBQ and every type of seating one could need. There’s also plenty of shade and the villa isn’t overlooked by the ones behind it. There’s a grassed area too.
Having direct access to the beach was a lovely treat. It’s a pebble beach perfect for paddling. We took our paddleboard (you can hire) and Mr P also did some sea swimming.
Should you be awake for sunrise, it’s beautiful. And near mid summer we got the sunset view too, across the hills.
For food, there’s Andreas Fish Tavern 3 minutes walk along the shore, which happens to be wonderful. And other options a 10 minute drive north. There’s a bakery and mini market not far away either.
Beach wise if it’s sand you are looking for then Shoestring Beach is 15 mins north.
We would return in a heartbeat, the villa has set the standard when it comes to booking holidays… And Zakynthos was such a dreamy and sleepy island to explore.
