The directions to Wild Escapes are my kind of directions. Its a what3words location, with a description that involves following a farm track and making the final bit of the journey on foot! A true wellies or walking boots type of getaway!
We enjoyed a mid-week winter break that coincided with my husbands birthday and an inset day. Many treehouses and cabins don’t have space for children, but the four Wild Escapes treehouses near Stockbridge in Hampshire are family friendly as well as being dog friendly. Whilst being aesthetically wonderful at the same time! We took the dog for 2 nights, and the child for 1 night (leaving him with grandparents for the other!).
I’ll let the pictures do the talking but if you are looking for somewhere truly rural, super comfortable and totally unique then these treehouses are for you. They are about a 10 minute drive away from Stockbridge, 20 minutes from Winchester and 15 minutes from the A34 or A303. There’s no Wifi, although thankfully (I needed to work) there is 4G!
The views are magnificent, even in dreary winter weather! The treehouses look onto one of the Black Chalk vineyards (you’ll find a bottle of their fizz in your welcome hamper) and across that valley to the Waitrose Farm. All there is to see is vines, trees and sheep – spectacular.
We picked the Damselfly Treehouse for our stay, my husband liked this one for the particular bath it had! This treehouse is at the end of the pathway so nobody walks past. In the winter with no growth on the trees it is possible to see the other treehouses, but come spring when the forest turns green it would be hard to see the other properties. Each of the treehouses is the same structure, I think the only difference is in the interior decor and colour.
The main space is a large (for a cabin) open plan area swathed with light from the massive windows. Sofa, arm chair, wood burner, dining table, ample kitchen (with dishwasher and funky miniature oven). Plenty of space for all the things that a dog and a five year old travel with. Off the lounge and through the bifold doors is a wide balcony with outdoor covered seating and a gas BBQ. It is dog proofed, our dog wasn’t able to escape!
The main bedroom has a kingsize bed and two walls are glass, giving spectacular views to wake up to. There are curtains but you won’t need them. The bedroom has a large sliding door between it and the lounge. The bunk room is snug and at the back of the property with a solid wooden door. The bathroom is large, with a double width sink and large shower. Then outside on a second balcony is an outdoor shower as well as a massive copper roll top bath. Enjoy the view as you bathe, or like I did lie in the hot water whilst a storm rages around you!
This bit of Hampshire is an area we get to enjoy year round, as we only live 15 minutes from the treehouses. It really is a perfect little corner as there is so much nearby. Great food to be found in Stockbridge, or closer still at The Peat Space, The Mayfly, even the Waitrose Farm. Go fizz tasting at Black Chalk in Cottonworth. Stock up on groceries either at the Waitrose Farm or at Chilbolton village stores. And when it comes to walking well the walks around Leckford, Chilbolton and Wherwell are wonderful. And it isn’t far away to visit the Hawk Conservancy or Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm.
Wild Escapes really is everything you could want from an off grid mini break, whether as a couple or as a family, and with or without a pet.
Book here – mid week 2 night breaks are available as well as 3 night weekend stays.
what a cute place! My kids would love it!
