THE VICTORIA HOLKHAM

Norfolk is always a good idea! Even in the depths of winter. Big skies, wide spaces, massive beaches, views for miles. Our sojourn to The Victoria Holkham proved this perfectly.

The Victoria Holkham

North Norfolk was where we spent the summer break when I was a teenager. Mr P and I have some fabulous sailing memories from there too. So it was about time we took the littlest Parkers – Bertie and Poppy!

We chose The Victoria Holkham for a few reasons. It’s dog friendly, it’s a short walk to the sea and there’s a family suite with a separate room .

What we found was even better…

It’s so dog friendly that Poppy had her own plate of sausages for breakfast each day! As well as a dog bed and towel, as well as dog treats, left in the room. There’s also some green space behind the hotel which is ideal for a quick run around at the end of the day and the start of the day. Not all of the property is for dogs, but it was just so good that well behaved dogs are made so welcome.

Breakfast is incredible. So good in fact, that when we were out in the daytime we didn’t need to eat lunch! It was a two course feast which an excellent choice. No buffet, as this is a small hotel, but no less options, everything was available and they were very accommodating of fussy six year old options!

Elegant and spacious rooms, we chose Joe’s Stop (room 10) as it was a two bedroom and two bathroom suite so Bertie had his own space. Meaning we didn’t need to go to sleep at the same time as him! Our suite had space for us all, two baths and was up in the roof. There is also air conditioning. The mini bar was included in the price and restocked daily!

A wonderful location. It’s a mile walk from the hotel to the gorgeous Holkham beach, famous from Shakespeare in Love – such a wonderfully large beach backed by sand dunes and pine trees. There’s a cafe there now too which is really handy.

So many places to visit – my beloved Burnham Overy Staithe; the upmarket Burnham Market; Burnham Thorpe of Nelson fame; Brancaster; Wells (lots of free parking with your hotel pass); Blakeney; and of course Holkham Hall itself. It’s a wonderful place to explore all year. Excellent pubs in most of those locations and a plethora of coffee shops too! Sandringham isn’t a long drive away either and we enjoyed the Christmas lights there on our visit.

A fabulous mini break to The Victoria Holkham that kicked off Christmas for us last year. We will definitely return, and for longer next time!
