Goodness knows where the time went, but here comes April and we’ve already had a weekend warm enough for shorts and tshirt (followed 2 days later by needing hat, scarf and gloves for my morning commute) – the last three months flew by and quite impressively (compared to last year) I have not been on a single plane yet, in fact since November! However not flying anywhere for over 4 months isn’t a bad thing… not in any way! It’s been lovely to have feet on the ground! Despite no flying, Mr P and I have embraced our #Take12Trips challenge boisterously and the first 3 trips of the year have been corkers!
January – The Crown Inn, Elton
A bleak month as always but which saw an exciting change of roles at work by the end of the month, having got through a big old signoff mid-month. To celebrate the fresh challenges ahead, we enjoyed a break in rural Cambridgeshire. We were invited to stay at a homely village inn with gorgeous rooms. A cosy room, great dining and a fantastic location for time out and some countryside walking – The Crown Inn, in Elton was a lovely little winter getaway indeed.
February – birthday fun in Paris
Paris is always a good idea, one of my most over-used phrases so far this year! We had the idea to use up some Virgin airmiles with Eurostar as they were rapidly approaching their use-by date. So we had a free trip under the channel and into Paris. We stayed in a boutique B&B away from the busy centre and enjoyed mooching around a city we already know well and taking the time to enjoy our food and wine as well as taking in the sights of the city!
March – stately home luxury at Cliveden House
As a birthday treat Mr P arranged for us to stay at Cliveden House for another little staycation! Oh my, luxury doesn’t get better than this. We were ever so lucky to be special guests of the hotel and don’t have a bad word to say about our stay – when I wrote my review it would be fair to say that I ran out of suitable adjectives to describe just how good it was! It was just a night away, but it would be fair to say we left feeling like we had been away for days, such good service in such a relaxing place!
What’s ahead, what’s next?
Well April is going to be busy – it could account for 4 of the next 12 trips! However despite work trips to India, France and Switzerland, the counting trip will be Easter and celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary in Cornwall. May will most probably be a day trip somewhere, making the most of the UK countryside and, I hope, in lovely weather! June – we are off to Boston and Maine! This is the big trip of the year, with first class flights thanks to amassed airmiles and starting off with 2 nights in a former prison in Boston, we are very much looking forward to revisiting this pretty little city. Then we head north into Maine – this part of the trip is still work in progress but includes a few nights staying in a lighthouse on an island! In July we hope to have a weekend in Edinburgh around a work trip and then in August I’ll be sailing at Cowes week for the first time in maybe 10 years.
The rest of the year still needs some thought, but the first 3 months has set such a precedent that I’m not sure how it is going to keep up! There is work to be done!
