We booked our stay at Timbrell’s Yard after I made a shock discovery… Mr P was away for over half of February with work and he also had a ski holiday and weekend in Cape Town squeezed in. In a very first world way, with no trips planned, I was feeling hard done by!
Wise as he is, Mr P quickly came up some weekend away choices for us, around the time of my birthday. He knows the way to my heart and smile! Bath was a city we’ve long wanted to explore together. We chose to make the lesser known quiet of Bradford-on-Avon our base. The ‘beast from the east’ tried its best to cancel the trip. Thankfully the folk at Timbrell’s Yard were able to move our booking to the next weekend.
We wanted somewhere relaxing, no glitz or glamour. Box ticked.
Timbrell’s Yard is a restaurant and pub with rooms. What appealed to us was that it was away from the busy city, looked suitably un-London and seemed to balance rustic and luxury. Happily on arrival the appeal was matched by delivery! A cosy pub and restaurant, helpful staff and space in our room to relax and unwind. Really homely. The lounge area in our room had a lovely river view, and my favourite thing – a window seat! A perfect place to read whilst Mr P watched a bit of rugby!
We wanted somewhere quiet to lay our heads. Box ticked.
Our room was the height of calm and a well thought through space. It was a split level, with the bedroom and bathroom on the mezzanine and the lounge below. Simple yet quirky décor, it was truly comfortable. And great details – a wardrobe hidden in the staircase, a movement sensor nightlight in the bathroom, local fudge and the ever-gorgeous Bramley smellies for shower and skin. Someone that knows about staying in nice places designed and kitted out the space. We snuck off to bed early for much needed shut eye time, waking only to the sound of the ducks.
We wanted good food. Box ticked.
Our first meal was supper and it was a treat. The restaurant is farmhouse chic and we loved the décor. The menu actually marks up vegan options and the waiting staff are some of the friendliest. And they totally get food allergies and are there to help. We shared some great little starters before I had a lamb burger for my main course and Mr P had the duck. Style is somewhere between a gastro-pub and a bistro and matches for the style of accommodation and hence its clientele. Breakfast was even better. The full English was local, hearty and delicious. And the avocado on toast just superb. Great juices and a little buffet spread meant everything needed was there!
We wanted to be somewhere pretty. Box ticked.
With a riverside location near a country park, it is ideally located for walkers. Awake and fresh as daisies on both days by 7am we enjoyed a river and canalside walk before breakfast. The perfect start to the day. Only the ducks were up and about before us. No one frowned as we dumped wellies at the door and pottered back to our room in our socks! The village is also postcard pretty with it’s charming cotswold stone buildings.
We wanted, we got!
Normally those that want don’t get. At least that’s how I was brought up! But with some simple wants we found an excellent base in Timbrell’s Yard. The price was very pleasing too. Location is perfect to pop into Bath of a morning, wander around the Roman Baths, eat a bunn at Sally Lunn’s and scurry back to the peace and solitude of Bradford as the city gets busy!
Is Timbrell’s Yard P&P approved for a weekend getaway? Most definitely. The ideal place for relaxed weekending!
It looks very cosy and relaxing 🙂

Really snug, glad we found it rather than staying in the city
This looks so charming and quintessentially English with a stylish twist, the perfect combo. I also have been longing to explore Bath lately and I love this riverside location, very tranquil!

A really good combo, and it is near the station too so you can get the train into the city!
I’ve had a couple of people recommend the restaurant at Timbrell’s Yard to me now and must give it a try – Bradford-on-Avon isn’t far from home for me but I’ve never been, do love a close to home weekend though so I will have to give it a try.

Hope you like it so much, sounds like popular opinion on your side!!
You have such a nack for finding these places. The thought of that breakfast has made me very hungry. I bet the one I’m about to have at Gatwick airport won’t be half as good at twice the price!

Fingers crossed it was ok! I think I would be sad now if we didn’t keep finding little gems like this!!
It’s too long since I’ve been to Bath and now you’ve sourced the perfect place to stay I need to get my act together and go back. Timbrell’s Yard is the perfect balance of rustic charm and luxury. Thanks for doing the research and ticking the boxes!

I take my former role as an auditor seriously!! Exactly the right balance, love it when a small place really gets it right
The boxes you need ticked are very similar to mine, so I always know your recommendations will be spot on. Timbrell’s Yard is the perfect getaway for a birthday or any other weekend for that matter. The vibe there calmed me even over the internet!
