Do you spend any time on Instagram or Pinterest looking for inspiration? It is impossible to miss all of the quotes that are pinned and shared. Some are pointless it has to be said, but there are plenty that get a nod, a wry smile, a like or a re-pin. I thought I would use my little corner of the internet to share some of my favourites, and some of my photos that link up with the blog. I won’t promise any wise words from me!
One of the ones I keep seeing and that puts things just as they are is from Arian Foster. I always assumed these inspiring quotes came from the annals of history, but not this one – a little bit of research and the truth on this occasion has come from an American Football player. A little bit more digging and he’s said quite a lot of motivational stuff too.
“Everyone should smile. Life really isn’t that serious. We make it hard. The sun rises. The sun sets. We just tend to complicate the process.”
The sun rises and sets every day. I know. But in between working long hours and living in a country where we see more of the clouds than we do of a clear sky, when I actually get to sit back, relax and enjoy the light show at either end of the day, then I’m in a happy place! I’d just add that for the evening piece, if it is accompanied with a sundowner on a holiday then that has to be one of my favourite things!
So, the sun rises…
At sea – on the sail home from Plymouth at the end of my first Fastnet Race back in 2003
At the airport – this one appreciated from the Heathrow Concorde Lounge with a glass of fizz in hand listening to the results of the US elections come in!
In Ireland – this is the view from our glorious suite at the Aghadoe Heights, we arrived in the dark and woke up to this!
On the motorway – please note I was the passenger as we trundled east
In the forest – getting up early for a morning cycle in the New Forest is always worth it
In Oman – all the dust and sand meant the glow was just magical
On the way to work – if only all my clients had their head office in the countryside
In the mist – the sun is definitely there, burning off the cloud at pace
Over the city – what a gorgeous view to Tower Bridge in London
Up a hill – getting up for a 5am hike of Lion’s Head in Cape Town gave us this delight, way above the city murk below
In Venice – and this is the best time to see the city, before the crowds and before the heat
The sun sets…
In London – this is my favourite commute, across Waterloo bridge as the sun goes down on another busy day
In Jamaica – stunning colours from our balcony
On honeymoon – after a fun day with friends on the beach at Bloubergstrand near Cape Town
Over the Solent – this was extraordinary as it had rained for days on end, then just for an hour we got this stunning evening walk
In a pub garden – where better, especially with the first jug of pimms or mount gay of the year (a while off yet I fear)
Up in the air – this was a near midnight sunset en route to Helsinki
In Cornwall – look at that red glow over Carn Brea
Even on a rainy day – that light is the sun, with more clouds coming in
Over the Dorset coast – I love being up high and seeing the big sky and all the structure to the clouds through the light
In Norfolk – one of my favourite places (Brancaster) always delivers
At sea – on the way home from Plymouth in 2003
In Oman – this picture captures the city of Muscat so well
On the beach – Mr P will confirm this picture took ages to get, fiddling with the camera settings for the perfect lens flare!
In Jamaica – yeah mon, just stunning to catch it from the edge of the swimming pool
In Cape Cornwall – we’ve done many a walk back from a UK sunset (on coastal footpaths with head torches) in the dark, just to make sure we see it all!
In the desert – the sand and dusty make the sunsets unique and jaw dropping, worth a back-breaking climb to the top of the largest dune
In Dubai – as the sun goes down the fountain light show begins
In Sardinia – Porto Cervo is a yachting mecca and a glorious place to sail and relax
In Athens – there’s a little park near the acropolis which is the gathering place to enjoy this treat
So this year, in lieu of any resolutions, my plan is just to keep things simple and enjoy the ride! Happy new year, belatedly!
PS – because we are in England and I am going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark, my lumie light is keeping up my sunrise/sunset fix

Thank you Mrs Sunshine, the golden hours are definitely my favourite time! Ax
Something magic about a sunrise or sunset – new beginnings, everything goes around

Always a stunning time of day, I’m never bored by them – just wish we had more in the UK!
WOW. I love sunsets… Not so keen about sunrise, but sometimes they are really worth it… right?

Sometimes they have to be done – totally worth it! The ones I have seen at see I was on watch for, heading to my bunk shortly afterwards!
What a lovely quote and concept for a post Anna. Super photos and I love the range of colours and scenes. Very uplifting. 🙂

Sunrise is the only daylight of the working day currently – different every day as I walk over Waterloo bridge
Some amazing captures you’ve manage to get there, Anna! I especially love the sky in that motorway shot – incredible!
