May has rattled past without much time to take breath! Only 4 flights for me which by recent levels is quite low! Nice to have my feet on the ground and plenty of time at home even whilst work was busy. Lots of time in London as is increasingly the case – but the more time I spend there the more I like it!
I am enjoying making a flipagram for each month – May’s no less – I hope that my music taste isn’t too embarrassing! What I found most interesting, looking back through the month, is that May the 1st feels such a long time ago. It is my blogiversary month – 2 years of online fun and frolics.
The month started with a day trip to Jersey – uneventful and flybe ran on time both ways thank goodness. My flights weren’t booked for me when I had wanted which meant I had a late flight home. I took myself for dinner for one in a beach restaurant and people watched avidly. My favourite moment was when a lady trying to appear civilised ordered ‘fish and chips – well done please’. The waiter coped admirably explaining that unless she wanted sushi ‘all our fish is fully cooked’. I was lucky not to spit my wine out – thank goodness I was sat facing the opposite direction…
We went to our first silent disco – what a great idea. Smart hotels can host fantastic parties without offending their residents patience from noise pollution by dishing out headsets. It was great fun, if not a bit peculiar to being with. Clearly the noise levels aren’t low when the DJ plays something like Bon Jovi’s Livin on a Prayer – we all started stamping our feet and belting out the words, defeating the point of the silence!
The general election process came to an end – thank goodness. We postal voted and then ignored all the charades. Despite work being hectic (it always is in May) we made time at weekends for some cycling and sailing. Fresh air somehow makes long hours ok – the key thing is to make time for the fresh air regardless of the to do list. Always worth it. The sailing was extra good – I used to sail on this yacht 10 years ago and she’s just gone back in the water for a summer of racing. Great fun to be back on board – it is just like riding a bike!
I was late discovering the Shaun in the City character trail – these things rarely pass me by entirely thankfully. We found a few between us. As luck would have it I had a meeting up near Paddington station meant I could see the boat-themed Shaun on one of the platforms. That evening we also discovered Little Venice which was a lovely place for post sign-off drinks and dinner. Mr P and I met at Paddington and went for a mooch – stumbling across this area. Great river view – plenty of narrow boats moored up – even a pedalo went past us (sobriety of peddlers was questionable)!
It was a big relief to have met the pre-bank holiday deadline as this meant a full weekend off work. We made the most of the time – chores, lie-ins, R&R and just one day trip to National Trust Stourhead in Wiltshire. The gardens were gorgeous and we had the best of the weather on our trip. I love all the smells of the flowers as soon as the sun is on them. We cut it fine with fitting in a ‘Take 12 Trips‘ visit this month because of a busy work schedule but fortunately Stourhead fitted in perfectly – proving that a relaxing and interesting time doesn’t need to include staying somewhere away from home.
The month ended with firstly a zip over to Zurich with work – on the same day as the FIFA arrests – rare that Zurich makes so much news, I kept my head down! And finally with a weekend in Cheshire on the edge of the Peak District with Mr P’s parents. Fine food, lie-ins and some lovely walks in the countryside – finding bluebells at the bottom of the garden was a nice surprise – as was some warm weather and sunshine which hadn’t been forecast.
Until next month from the USA! xx
Congratulations on your blogversary – and I didn’t realise you’d been to Jersey too! Funny that a lady asked for fish and chips well done 😉

oh – it was a classic moment, cringeworthy! I was just there for the day – didn’t see a great deal!
