A friend shared an amusing article about how most people are surprised it is September already – I can’t agree more and already it is whistling past at pace. It has been a busy year, even just recapping the Take 12 Trips bits…
The #Take12Trips initiative introduced to me by On the Luce has really made sure that even when we’re busy, we’ve made the time for a trip in the month – be it a local day trip or taking a vacation. I hadn’t really appreciated how much we’ve fitted in until I took a quick look back through the #Take12Trips menu…
In January we broke up the bleak monotony of winter with a country weekend at a picture postcard pub near Cambridge. February saw us pop under the channel to Paris for a long weekend, re-visiting the city and discovering some new places. In March Mr P surpassed himself with a Cliveden House birthday surprise and upped the game for his birthday next year! We spent a lovely Easter (and anniversary) in Cornwall, exploring more new places and seeing family. May has long been a crazy working month for me so we made the most of day trips – and particularly enjoyed Stourhead National Trust. June was much longed for, and we got our long-haul heaven over in beautiful Maine. July and August have then been a total change and the focus has been on the sailing – and it was great to be back on the water I must say! That sounds busy enough – add the 30 or so work flights and the diary has been pretty manic…
So I should be happy that September has started very quietly, albeit with the first cold of ‘winter’. But we should be on Anglesey with friends this weekend but unfortunately work got in the way, we’ll get there soon I hope. It is a gorgeous part of the country – I love these two photos from recent visits!
September will hopefully be a month of weekend day trips locally, rugby world cup socialising (if only it could be 2003 all over again) and a spot of sailing at Bart’s Bash, the worlds largest sailing event.
The rest of the year isn’t planned out at all. And imagine my surprise when I realised today that I still have 67.5 hours of annual leave to take by the end of the year. Research says for short to mid-haul that we need a bit of the canaries, the south of the Med or Madeira in our lives… plenty of ideas – a long weekend of winter sun is needed and the nice chaps at HMRC just sent me a repayment so I guess that is the green card to book….
I’ve not heard of this challenge but it sounds really cool! We’re planning a Canaries trip soon too, need a bit of sunshine before daylight saving time ends!

It is forcing us to do something even in quiet months… A good thing! I think that might be a good call, see you there for the last of the warmth!!
