Continuing through 2012 and we had many a trip to the stunning island of Anglesey – just about as far north west as you can get in Wales, attached to the mainland by 2 bridges. We are lucky to have great friends that live there and so get to visit often (although work keeps getting in the way of plans this year) – it is a gorgeous part of the world at all times of year.
Over the Queen’s Jubilee weekend my friend and I were both abandoned wives – husbands away for work or sailing. For once the weather played ball perfectly – I had a swift and easy drive up there through Snowdonia (it may take longer but it is downright stunning) and we had a couple of days pottering around. My favourite place to visit on Anglesey is Llandwynn Island – it is just stunning – as the photos above show. There is plenty of parking at Newborough Beach and it is pleasant stroll along the surf and over to the island – which is named after the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Each time we visit we’ve taken the obligatory photo by the canon with our head coming out as if a cannonball! It never gets boring! Nor does the view across to Snowdonia which is quite spectacular.
The scale of the sky is something that I always love too – so much of it, and there isn’t always rain falling from it either! There is of course plenty of rain in Wales at times, just look at another trip we took in 2012 when we went to Aber Falls which is back on the mainland. Another gorgeous walk – Mr P carried our friends toddler for some extra exercise!
We also headed back to Llandwynn, with a fancy camera this time. We were lucky not to get rained on as it was very squally – it made for stunning photos!
A great fun place to visit, and always somewhere new to see and plenty of places to eat and drink with new ones popping up all the time! Thank goodness for our friendly tour guides! Where to next time?
Lovely photos – thanks for sharing. We live in Cheshire and often drive to Anglesey in our campervan. The drive along the A55 is (in our mind) just like the Amalfi Coast…almost! We’re in the process of selling up and moving to the island and our nearest beach will be Newborough. We were on Llanddywn island today – such a beautiful and evocative place. We’re currently on a campsite near RAF Valley; it’s raining and blowing a hooley and pitch dark….but still loving it!

Oh wow, what a perfect plan!! Our friends live in Menai and love the island, it really is magical! And I agree, that drive along the north coast is epic on a stormy day!!
