And now for something completely different…. A night in an Easyhotel! And before you ask, it wasn’t me – Mr P stepped forward to take on this challenge! Whilst it doesn’t quite fit into the niche of my website, a hotel room for £40 in central London in the Christmas party season should not be sniffed at! So – shall we take a look?
Mr P chose the Victoria hotel. Doesn’t look at all bad from the outside does it? It does infact look nicer from the outside than lots of the hotels I’ve stayed at in London that are +£150.
The room was on the small side, granted they often are in London, but this is definitely ‘pod’ style. I’m glad I didn’t go up and stay as well, there would not have been space for me and our bags by the looks of it. Regardless – it was clean and had everything that was needed for a night away from home.
Including, as the photos show, a lot of orange paint – I am not sure how one’s head might feel waking up to this! Helpfully they have labelled the hotel on the wall so you would have no chance of forgetting where you were!
From the main door there is just enough space to open the door and turn towards the bed! The bathroom has what it needs, although it does resemble what you might find more commonly on a sailing yacht – although at least the floor is horizontal which makes showering easier than on a boat at sea! Mr P did actually say he would have preferred no bathroom and more space, as he could just as easily showered at the office in the morning!
Apparently though, the room doesn’t have a window. Small (pod-like) I can cope with but the lack of a window, even for £40 – well I’m not sure that would work for me, I need to be able to see daylight when I wake up.
And so there we have it – £40 can indeed get you a room for the night in London.
For £40 in central London, I don’t think you can go too far wrong so long as it’s clean. I’d expect small at that price, although this seems so small that even a wide angle lens would struggle to do it justice! I’d say the branding is a bit ‘too in your face’ but for the sake of saving £100+ for the night, I’d live with it! 🙂

I think if you have no intentions of needing the room for anything more than a place to lay a head then it’s fine…. But I haven’t tried it!
It’s all about location right? You’re only sleeping and showering in the room :-). I’ve stayed in window-less rooms before, they are interesting, but its all good. And for that price in Central London, I’d do it easily.
I wanted to see a photo of the bed, or was the room so small you could not get to move around to take the photo? :-).

Hi Kerwin – I have added a photo, you can’t see the whole bed due to room size, it looks like a double which you can’t fall out of! £40 and its safe!!
I actually don’t know about these hotels. They are not dissimilar maybe to the capsule hotels in Japan 🙂 Actually as a port on a storm or in a for a party in London at Christmas, I would give it a go ..for one night.

For one night!! I have slept in so much smaller spaces on yachts without even a pillow, but there was always daylight, that’s the one thing I would struggle without!
Definitely a bargain if you need somewhere to sleep – alone, clearly – in central London after perhaps a night out. Although I would not want to wake up feeling fragile and be confronted with all that bright orange! It reminds me of the Yotel rooms at Gatwick Airport which are similarly useful if you need to crash out for a while. Got me curious to see which other locations are served by Easyhotels…

Fragile and bright orange is something that makes me feel queasy!
That’s not bad for £40 but would be such a tight squeeze for two as you say! With all that orange hopefully you would wake up in a bright cheery mood! xx

I think I would take a sleep mask to ensure a slow wake up…
