Last year our wedding anniversary timed nicely with a Flashback Friday and so I shared happy wedding memories and wedding day yacht travel.
This year – on our 6th anniversary – I got out of bed at 6am for a car service to Heathrow to spend 10 hours on a plane to Miami for a business trip… Anniversary celebrations are next weekend instead! We have had a busy few years of travel and adventure and I thought it would be rather lovely to look back at them since we are apart!
Year 1
Our honeymoon in South Africa – 3 weeks of adventure that my Nana kindly gave us – Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Drakensberg, KZN and St Lucia, an amazing start to married life!
Next up, Camping with friends – sun, rain, even hail and the need to eat breakfast in a supermarket to escape the weather! Perfect nonetheless!
Norfolk is one of my happy places, our second trip together there was picture perfect and we even took our dinghy to an open meeting event. Norfolk skies and sunsets – just gorgeous!
A little cottage in Pembrokeshire was where we spent our first married Christmas, stunning views and walks and a complete absence of 3G
Year 2
A Drunken Duck visit to Cumbria – gorgeous accommodation and a climb up a waterfall (footpath apparently, we call it fondly a wife test) to the top of Scafell!
Vineyard living has to be done at any opportunity – my friends adopted me a vine and so we spent the weekend staying at the vineyard enjoying its fruit!
Our East Coast road trip took quite some planning – Boston, Cape Cod, Newport and New York – my first taste of the US was very agreeable
In Singapore I joined Mr P at the end of his work trip and we chillaxed very well in just a few days – I managed to find a boutique hotel which made us very happy
Year 3
Eze was a quirky perched village, a long weekend here it was fantastic to find a place less glamorous and more normal than what the Côte d’Azur is really known for!
A short little Autumn break in Devon with no 3G and plenty of fresh air and sunshine, and many more hills than my cycling legs expected! And a couple of vineyards!
Our trip to Oman was pure luxury and nailed two of my bucket list items – our first BA First and The Chedi! Gorgeous climate and my goodness the length of the pool… 100 metres!
Year 4
Onto Jamaica – yeh mon, one love. Favourite Caribbean island so far – chilled, real and stunning, a great pace of life
We love going ‘home’ to Cornwall and in a June heatwave it was idyllic – we stayed in a Bull Shed and loved exploring everywhere my Grandpa suggested!
Back to Cornwall in the autumn, it was no less beautiful and perfect for coastal walks, more exploring with my Grandpas guidance!
The big one – Arabia was a splendid place to see in Mr P’s 40th in high style – 3 hours drive into the desert, remote and stunning
Year 5
Venice as an anniversary and birthday treat was such a cliché but a fabulous weekend in a city where prosecco is cheaper than water
We fell in love with the people and places of Donegal and Derry and left a little bit of our hearts there too
It was a treat to be invited to Sardinia for some fun on and off the water yacht racing and socialising with friends
Greece at the end of the season was perfect, and the Peloponnese is the country’s hidden gem, and the Kinsterna hotel, oh my goodness!
We enjoy popping to Vienna to spend the weekend with friends, exploring, eating awesome food and enjoying a little mulled wine!
Back to Paris for the first time in 6 years – lovely to return to a city already known to us and just potter around at a more sedate pace
Being taken to Cliveden House was quite the birthday treat! The most opulent yet relaxed hotel I have had the pleasure to visit – it runs in the family, the Chewton Glen is similarly superb
Year 6
Another trip to Cornwall for an Easter and anniversary treat – the sun shone and it was warm enough for shirt sleeves and sundowners!
Our trip to Maine was something of an epic – gorgeous scenery, incredible accommodation and just the best way of life, we totally relaxed and reconnected and were blessed with beautiful weather too
A return to Vienna for more fun with our friends – Cycling, swimming and enjoying the local sparkling wine
Snatching a few days in Cornwall as a November mini-break that didn’t disappoint, with this room view Portloe had me at hello!
And finally we kicked off 2016 with Tenerife mini-break! There are quiet corners and well-heeled hotels, thoroughly lovely and only a 4 hour flight
And countless weekend sailing jaunts, trips to Anglesey and visits to National Trust gardens… We have been busy! This year looks set to be a cracker too – Israel in May and then hopefully some summer (Greece please) and winter sun (I’m thinking Doha or Abu Dhabi currently, or another Canary Island?…)
All these memories make me realise how lucky I am that we have the opportunity to do what we do and enjoy it together! Thankfully my husband likes getting on a plane as much as me, putting walking boots and waterproofs on and getting outdoors in the UK, or just going on a day trip because the blog needs some love! May the adventures continue, and next year I promise to be at home for our anniversary xx
I adore your wedding dress, it’s so beautiful! Happy anniversary!
